Deanne Woityra's Teaching Philosophy

Throughout my teaching experiences, I have realized that all students can learn and will learn.  Students need to be provided with various opportunities that cater to all learning styles and allow them to expand and develop as learners. In order to accommodate to the diverse needs of the learners and allow them to grow, I believe the following:

  • all people have the power and right to learn with high standards while achieving their full potential as they follow the educational path

  • students need a safe, warm, welcoming and respectful environment to allow them to grow and develop into functional members of society while feeling comfortable to take educational risks

  • students learn best in a positive learning community, where they are able to form trusting relationships as well as someone who will foster their self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-regulation, which will enable them to grow and develop

  • learners have a wide range of life experiences and it is important to consider their diverse backgrounds when providing them with new experiences that allow them to learn new content

  • success of the student requires holding students accountable for their learning, by modeling and presenting materials in a clear and logical way

  • learners achieve and gain more from the content when the lessons are meaningful, engaging, and authentic; in order to obtain this, learners need to be able to make connections to real life

  • learners learn through their own style as well as their own pace and it is imperative to foster and accommodate the needs of those learning styles through differentiated instruction, which provides students with an equal opportunity to learn

  • modeling, problem solving and open-ended inquiry is used in order to guide the learning process

  • to promote life-long learning, experiences can be created inside and outside of the classroom since learning takes place everywhere

  • showing students that they can have fun in the search for knowledge, which will inspire and motivate students to seek more

  • integrated instruction allows learning to be enhanced through several modes through cross curriculum to support and develop higher level thinking

  • ongoing assessment of students knowledge base through various modes in order to reflect on the teaching practice

  • the use of instructional technology can support and enhance learning

  • pursue professional development constantly to ensure the latest educational techniques are being applied within the classroom as well as to continue life-long learning

  • collaboration among colleagues to ensure best practices are initiated to benefit the education of all students

  • parent/family involvement is essential to a child’s learning since it is imperative to have strong home-school connections, which includes a strong support system with constant and open communication through various forms of media

  • most importantly, I believe that as a teacher, I need to serve as a role model, an intellectual, be flexible, think on my feet, and know my students in order to provide opportunities for learning
